The Department of Justice announced a settlement agreement with Spokane public schools in Washington state this week to address the discriminatory use of seclusion and restraint against students with disabilities, according to a press release.

The agreement will resolve the department’s investigation of the schools under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The investigation found that the school district inappropriately and repeatedly secluded and restrained students with disabilities and did not limit the practice to emergency situations, as required by state law and district policy.
