Memories flutter between my heart and mind, not interrupting me, just fluttering in and out. Like a passing breeze stirring up leaves. I watch them dance through the air, swirling, twirling to the ground. As I walk by, little snippets of memory flutter about. I catch myself giggling out loud. Or a tear comes to my eye. No rhyme or reason why. One, and then the other.

They mingle with the days gone by that have brought me to this moment.

Like noticing a flower blooming at the edge of the path. I pause. Bend down. Breathe it in. Then simply carry on.

Does that happen to you?

In the flawless architecture of childhood beauty

In the map the shows the roads of where I have been

Innocence the uncharted path.

She has yet to carry the history of time gone by in different speeds.

Her face, just beginning

Mine, marked by all the faces

I have been.

Time has not left its mark on her.

And here we are.

Two lives touching

I want to stay here in the unguarded gaze.

I look at her little face besides my own

and feel the strange tenderness

of being both the past

and the person who gets to watch

the path unfold.

Many of you have written to ask how things are here in France.

Living in France has taught me that protest is woven into the country’s civic life. Demonstrations are part of a long tradition that reaches back through generations. The right to gather, to march, and to make one’s voice heard has shaped labor laws, education, social protections, and countless public conversations. Whether one agrees with a cause or questions it, public protest has long been one way France examines itself.

What has unfolded in parts of Paris, Lyon, Marseille, along with other cities, tells a different story. Alongside those who have come to express their convictions, groups known as les casseurs have arrived with another purpose. Their aim is destruction. Broken windows, burned vehicles, damaged public buildings, looting shops, and frightened neighborhoods leave scars that reach far beyond a single day. The people who live and work in these places carry the cost long after the crowds have gone home.

The distinction matters.

A demonstration asks to be heard. Destruction silences conversation. It turns attention away from the issues that brought people into the streets and places the focus on violence, destruction, and fear.

My hope is that the voices calling for change ARE HEARD, over the noise that isn’t their message. That this movement receive intentional attention, that meaningful conversations follow, and that the concerns bringing so many people into the streets are addressed with honest resolve. France has a long history of wrestling with difficult questions. I hope this moment leads toward understanding, practical solutions, and a path forward that serves everyone.

Water has a language from deep within.
Caressing stone. Smoothing its edges through steadfastness.

Gabriel circles the fountain in our village.
Counts another lap with his little toy car.

Then another lap.

He was circling the fountain, circling the living source. It felt so symbolic to me as I watched.

Love moves like water, nourishing roots we cannot see, finding every small opening, carrying yesterday into tomorrow

Childhood is a fountain of youth.

Lovely friends to spend the day together.

a beautiful view looking back at Cassis. We didn’t go far, no need to.

I never tire of admiring Cap Camille. The fifth largest cliff in Europe.

back at the port, the water captured the view of the façades – modern art floating.

cassis colors welcoming us back to land.

what did you do today ?
