James Lloyd “Jim” Patterson, Sr. stepped into heaven on April 17, 2025. Jim was born to James and Naolyne Patterson on October 2, 1938, in Fort Worth. Jim attended Paschal HS and graduated from Texas Tech University, where he met Mary Kay Swafford from Waco. After serving in the Army, Jim and Mary Kay found their way to Austin, where they resided for over 7 decades. They were married for 57 years when Mary Kay died from Alzheimer's.
Jim’s faith was evident to all of his friends and family. He decided to follow Jesus as a child and was baptized in Fort Worth. As an adult, he was active in several Austin churches, including serving as an elder at Grace Covenant. He led weekly men’s Bible studies in downtown Austin and served Austin Young Life as a committee chairman.
Jim never met a stranger and was recognized as a great salesperson, since he never took “no” for an answer. Some might even say he was stubborn! He worked 25 years in banking, even starring in a statewide bank commercial which highlighted his incredible persistence. He was a daily runner on Austin’s Town Lake trail. He loved hunting and fishing with his friends. He and Mary Kay enjoyed getting away to their land near Fredericksburg and skiing in Ruidoso.
Jim served as president of the Austin Jaycees and treasurer of the Austin Livestock Show and Rodeo. Community service was very important to Jim, whether it was cleaning the hike and bike trails or supporting youth sports. Jim saw a need and was one of the founders of the NEAYA, which launched youth basketball, baseball, and tennis programs. Jim coached youth sports for years. He never missed one of his kids’ or grandkids’ games or dance recitals.
Jim is survived by his children: Pete (Melissa) Patterson of Waco, Lisa Frasher Schindler (Hans) of Wimberly, and Deborah Kay Gibbens of Baton Rouge. Jim’s greatest title was “Papa J”, given to him by his six grandchildren, which include: Johnathan (Lindsey) Frasher of Houston, Lauren (Joel) Green of Baton Rouge, Jake (Lindsey) Patterson of Waco, Tyler (Kaitlyn) Frasher of Austin, Carey Beth (Cornelius) Hegeman of Waco, and Grant (Mallory) Gibbens of Baton Rouge. Jim also enjoyed 12 great-grandchildren.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, both parents, and his brother and sister, Sandy and Bobbett (infant). He was devoted to loving and serving his family, and he will be greatly missed.
A memorial gathering will be held on July 12 in Austin—more details to follow.
The post James Lloyd “Jim” Patterson, Sr. appeared first on Lake Shore Funeral Home & Cremation Services | Waco Texas.

Elvira Mikulencak, 85, of Woodway, died on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Rosary recited at 11AM Monday, May 5 followed by Memorial Mass: Noon Monday, May 5 at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Jerome Catholic Church Columbarium.

Vera was born April 16, 1940 in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy. She was the daughter of Giuseppe and Antonietta Mangiacotti. Vera immigrated to the United States in 1952 to live with her uncle and aunt, Matteo and Eva Mangiacotti, in New York, NY, where she attended school. In 1959, she moved to Houston, Texas, to attend the Sacred Heart Dominican College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. After college, she worked as an elementary school teacher and married the love of her life Albert F. Mikulencak, Jr. in 1964. In 1967, the couple moved to Waco, TX.

Vera was a devoted wife to her beloved Al for 42 years. She was a super-mom of six children and routinely seen around town hauling her pack in a station wagon (and later in a Lincoln town car) from school to church to dance lessons to soccer practice. As her children became adults and married, Vera warmly welcomed their spouses into the family. To her grandchildren, she was known as Nonna and was a larger than life figure in their lives with her fashionable sunglasses, perfect nails, and beautifully coiffed hair. The boundless love she gave her family was truly wondrous.

Vera had a big heart, which she shared with countless friends and relatives throughout her life. She loved gardening, tennis, cooking, playing mahjong and bridge, and always had an open door for her neighbors (and often a rum cake). She adored birds and always made sure her feeder was well-stocked with only the choicest birdseed. Vera left this world surrounded by the love of her family and in the home she spent her life building. She will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Albert F. Mikulencak, Jr.; parents, Giuseppe and Antonietta (Longo) Mangiacotti and Matteo and Eva Mangiacotti; and in-laws, Ann and Albert Mikulencak, Sr.
Survivors include her six children, April Sewell (Gary), Lisa Ann Mikulencak (Bernhard Kohlmeier), Albert Mikulencak III, Laura Helpert (Chris), Duane Mikulencak, and Paul Mikulencak (Kailey); grandchildren, Roy Sewell, Matteo Danis, Lorenzo Danis, Dominic Danis, Sofia Helpert, Augustus Helpert, Mia Helpert, Jude Mikulencak, Ivan Mikulencak, Henry Mikulencak, Elliot Mikulencak, and Lucy Mikulencak; great grandchild, Lily Sewell; brother, Matteo Mangiacotti (Emma Negrisolo); sister, Graziela Mangiacotti; and numerous other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Hilario was born on January 14, 1930, in Marlin, Texas, to Felipe Chacon Flores and Maria Esquivel Flores.
Though Hilario never attended formal schooling, he led a full and hardworking life. He married Anita Gayton Flores and spent many years working as an auto mechanic in Austin. Later, he served as a dedicated personal assistant for a family in Fort Worth until his retirement.
Hilario was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and loved spending time with friends at local pubs. He was a natural storyteller who brought joy and laughter to his family with his vivid memories and tales. In his late 80s, he found joy in his daily morning walks to Braum’s for coffee and biscuits with gravy. During these walks, he formed a special friendship with a neighbor, Paul, who kindly kept a watchful eye on Hilario to ensure his safety.
He is survived by his sons, Phillip (Bobby) Flores and Johnny G. Flores and wife Betty; his daughters, Irene Rosado and Yolanda Acosta and husband George; and his brother, Jesse Flores, and wife Tracy. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, including Damien Rosado and wife Teresa, Georgianna Fortin and husband Chris, Lourdes Rosado, Miranda Jackson and husband Percy, Jorge Adam Acosta, Graciela Pedroza and husband Juan, Jake Flores, Karen Flores, Harper Flores, Jonathan Lee Moran Sr., Julius Moran, Daisy Flores, and Olivia Rose Skinner and husband Deon—as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Hilario was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita, his parents, Felipe and Maria Flores, his brothers Felipe Flores and John Flores, Tony Martinez, and his sister Betty Martinez.
