Nothing hits the spot on a long hot summer day better than ice cream, am I right? I have to confess that even though I’m all grown up, when I hear the ice cream truck I’m tempted to run after it. Unfortunately, ice cream truck habits are expensive. Recently, I discovered how to make homemade freezer bag ice cream which is more budget friendly.

Homemade freezer bag ice cream is an easy treat that you can concoct in just 15 minutes. Maybe less. The hardest part of making freezer bag ice cream is shaking a gallon sized bag filled with ice for 5 minutes straight. However, shaking probably burns off some of the ice cream calories, so it isn’t all bad… I guess. It helps that this freezer bag ice cream is totally delicious!

In addition to really hitting the spot on hot days, freezer bag ice cream is a fun DIY project to tackle with the kids. They’ll love getting to make their very own ice cream. To make freezer bag ice cream an even bigger treat, consider setting out a variety of toppings the kids can choose from such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, fresh fruit, etc. Trust me, once they’ve had the chance to make and decorate freezer bag ice cream they’ll never scream for the ice cream truck again.

Plus with all the demand for freezer bag ice cream, you’ll have killer arms. Seriously, like Michelle Obama arms!

How to Make Ice Cream in a Bag

INGREDIENTS/MATERIALS

1 Cup half and half
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 Cup coarse sea salt
Ice
Sprinkles (optional)
Gallon and quart sized freezer bags

DIRECTIONS

Follow these step by step directions or follow along with this video to learn how to make homemade ice cream in a bag:

1. Fill a large (gallon) Ziploc bag halfway with ice.

2. Add sea salt to the bag.

3. Pour half and half, sugar, and vanilla into the smaller (quart) freezer bag and seal.

4. Place the small Ziploc bag in the larger bag, seal the larger bag, and shake for 5 minutes.
Tip: Try singing Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off while you do this… it’ll help the time pass.

5. Remove the smaller bag and rinse off the salt.

6. Scoop ice cream out of the bag with a spatula, top with sprinkles, and enjoy!

Tip: If you want, you can add a few drops of food coloring to this freezer bag ice cream recipe to give the ice cream a little color. In fact, you could make a variety of different colored ice creams to choose from.

MATERIALS

*Makes 6 oz.

4 drops peppermint therapeutic grade essential oil
2-4 oz. Mason jars

DIRECTIONS

1. Add coconut oil and aloe vera gel to a large mixing bowl.

2. Using a hand mixer, whip coconut oil and aloe vera gel until you have a fluffy consistency (about 5 minutes).

3. Add in essential oils.

4. Mix for another couple minutes.

5. Fill Mason jars about 3/4 of the way full and seal with lid.

To Use:

1. Scoop homemade sunburn relief cream out of Mason jar using a clean craft stick.

According to Today, parents spend just over $100 per child per year on school supplies, and that doesn’t include clothes, shoes, or electronics. Add in those items, and parents can expect to spend an average of $669 per child. Yikes!

If you have more than one child, the cost adds up fast. It’s sure to leave you wondering “where to get free school supplies?” Well, wonder now more. Here are 10 ways to snag free school supplies!

How to Get Free School Supplies Online 

When it comes to how to get free school supplies and clothes, one of the easiest options, in my opinion, is to look online. Seriously, the Internet is an awesome resource for getting all kinds of freebies including free school supplies by mail 2026 and 2027.

In this article, I’ll be sharing just a few of my favorite ways to get free school supplies online, but don’t limit yourself to these options. I promise, there are many, many more ways to save with the power of the Internet. Just open up Google and do searches for things like “free school supplies by mail 2026” or “where can I get free school supplies,” and you’ll get a plethora of results to explore.  

#1 – Online Groups

Joining local or non-local groups through sites like Facebook can be a great way to find free bulk school supplies.

Tip: Look for groups oriented toward frugal living, parenting, or bartering.

Craigslist may also be a good answer to the question of how to get free school supplies and clothes. The site has a section for free items located under the “For Sale” category. 

#2 – Ask Brands

Ask and ye shall receive… free school supplies by mail 2026 and 2027. Okay, the saying doesn’t end that way but still, my advice is to ask. You’ll be surprised at how often companies are willing to provide free promo products, samples, and coupons. Here’s what you do:

1. Make a list of the school supplies you need.
2. Find companies that make or sell those products (ex. Crayola).
3. Find their social media channels such as Facebook.
4. Contact them and ask about getting free school supplies samples or coupons.

Remember, the worst they can say is no!

Tip: Follow these brands or stores on social media to be the first to know about giveaways, sales, coupons, and other ways to save money.

#3 – Freecycle.com

Freecycle.com is an interesting way to get free school supplies online. It’s essentially a HUGE swap-meet. In addition to snagging some free school supplies by mail, you may also be able to get rid of that junk taking up space in your garage and basement.

#4 – Frugal Living Sites

Your favorite frugal living sites (hint: freebiefindingmom.com) are great resources to answer questions like “how to get free school supplies and clothes” and “who is giving out free school supplies?”

How to Get Free School Supplies Offline 

Other than the Internet, there are plenty of ways to find free school supplies by mail or via other means. Here are some options to investigate.

#6 – At School

Believe it or not, your child’s school may be an excellent source for free school supplies. Contact the administration at the school, explain what you need (what specific products), and ask if they can help. The school itself may not be able to give you free school supplies but they can likely direct you to local or national organizations that can tell you how to apply for free school supplies.

#7 – Local News Affiliates

Check your local newspaper or local news organization websites to find opportunities to get free school supplies by mail or otherwise. Local news affiliates will inform you about upcoming sales, community events, and fundraisers all aimed at providing kids with back-to-school goodies.

#8 – Charitable Organizations

If you are facing economic hardship and wondering where can I get free school supplies, charitable organizations might be your answer. There are many, many charities out there that may be able to help ensure your little one heads back to school on the right foot, but here are a few you should definitely check out.

Salvation Army
While the Salvation Army has locations all across the United States, their organization is relatively decentralized. This means that you will need to contact your local Salvation Army to get information on getting free school supplies.

Boys & Girls Club of America
Partners, including Michael’s and Staples, donate products to local Boys & Girls Clubs so this organization can be a fantastic source for free school supplies by mail 2026 and 2027. Like Salvation Army, they’re decentralized (not all clubs have the same supplies), so contact your nearest location to get info.

Kids in Need Foundation
This national organization strives to provide free school supplies to kids all across the country. In addition, Kids in Need Foundation provides grants to teachers for necessary classroom supplies.

#9 – Community Organizations or Events

Another way to snag free school supplies is through community organizations. For example, in some towns the Chamber of Commerce will do fundraisers and school supply drives.

Look for flyers in local shops, restaurants, and other buildings such as churches. Check the city’s website as well as the public library website for information on events that may help you figure out how to get free school supplies and clothes.

#10 – Rebates

Rebates are still an excellent way to get free school supplies by mail 2026 and 2027. Many office supply stores offer great rebate deals on school supplies during the summer months. For instance, the Staples Easy Rebates program is a great way to get free school supplies. Sure you have to pay now, but in the long run, those school supplies will be free!

There you have it, 10 ways to get free school supplies. One final tip, it’s probably unreasonable to think you can get all of your kids school supplies for free. However, one way to save big on school supplies is to buy them after school starts and save them for next year. Here’s what you do:

1. Ask the school for the back-to-school shopping list for the grade ahead of your child’s. Example: If your child is in 3rd grade, you’d ask to get the 3rd grade shopping list and the 4th grade shopping list.
2. After school starts (typically in mid September), head to your local office supply stores including places like Walmart and Staples, and look for deeply discounted school supplies that are on the 4th grade shopping list.
3. Store these away till next year.

I love printables and templates that have multiple and varied uses. If you feel the same way, trust me when I say these 5 point star templates are the star of the show. There’s just so much you can do with them, thanks in part to the fact that there are a myriad of sizes from the small star template (1 inch) to the large star template printable (7.5 inches).

So, let’s dive right in and look at some of the ways you might use these star template free printables in your home. Oh, and along the way, I’ll share some my other favorite versatile printables and templates!

1 Inch Free Printable Small Star Template

The small star template measures approximately 1 inch and is available pre-colored or blank, meaning you can color it however you desire. A great use for this small five point star template is as a marker on various charts. For example, you could cut the stars out and use them as progress or completion markers on:

How to Draw a Small Star

2 Inch Free Printable Star Cut Out Template

The 2 inch star shape template is a bit more prominent than the 1 inch star shape PDF printable. A good use might be to demonstrate satisfaction with a completed task. For example if you’re a teacher (or a parent homeschooling your children), you might use this five point star template to indicate a job well done on a printable book report templates or on tracing or coloring printable bubble letters templates, which can help with mastering the ABCs.

Of course, as an adult, you can use this 2 inch small star template to indicate satisfaction with yourself as well. (After all, it isn’t just kids that need to be reminded of a job well done!) For example, if you keep a gratitude journal template and you were able to stay grateful on a particularly trying day you might want to mark the day with a star. Not only does this recognize your achievement, but it’ll make it easy to look back on that day when you need a little pick-me up!

Free 3 Inch Star Template Printable

The medium sized 3 inch star template, like all of the templates, is available in a pre-colored printable and a blank printable. At this size and above, the star shape templates aren’t too difficult to color, so you may want to go for the blank option and decorate to your liking. I think the 3 inch star templates make a nice addition to craft projects and homemade (or semi-homemade) cards and gifts.

For example, you could combine a 3 inch star template with this “Happy Father’s Day” calligraphy writing templates to create a heartfelt Father’s Day card. In addition to these free printable stars, other printables that might come in handy for making cards are:

4 Inch Free Printable Star Template

The 4 inch star cut out template is also a nice size for arts and crafts projects. It’s large enough to be seen and worked with but is not a full page star template printable, which can be a little overwhelming if you don’t want the star to be the focal point. For instance, I think the 4 inch 5 point star template is nice for creating Christmas décor or for Christmas crafts.

Free Printable 5 Inch 5 Point Star Template

The 5 inch free printable star template is large but not quite a full page star template printable. It, along with either the 4 or 6 inch star template free printables, is nice for educational purposes. For example, you could use this star template PDF as part of a set of flashcards or a matching game to help your kid learn shapes. Other educational printables you may want to download are:

6 Inch Printable Star Template Free

The 6 inch star shape template can be a great option for decoration if you want to make a statement. For example, you could print multiple copies of this five point star template, cut out the stars, and then string them together to make a star banner. This could be a fun way to decorate for a variety of celebrations from a birthday party to a graduation party!

Tip: If you’re looking for ways to keep an event or party within budget, consider using event printable budget worksheets to track expenses. Creating your own décor is one way to cut costs; another is to use an inexpensive theme such as a rainbow party theme. Download and color the blank printable star template in bright and varied colors to fit your rainbow theme!

Free 7 Inch Star Template PDF

This large star template measures approximately 7 inches. Its size makes it a great first step in learning to draw stars free-hand because it’s super easy to trace. Simply print out this 5 point star template, place a thin piece of paper over top, and trace. Keep at it; again and again, and in no time you’ll be able to draw a star without tracing!

Tracing is how you’ll master drawing stars and other shapes as well as get started with calligraphy! If you’re interested in calligraphy, read “Learn How to Write Calligraphy“.

7.5 Inch Large Star Template Printable

The full page star template printable comes pre-colored or blank. The pre-colored option is large enough to be used as a sign or label. For instance, you could help your child write his or her name on the star cut out template (within the star), cut out the star, and then affix it to the door of their bedroom.

The blank full page star template printable makes a fun and easy coloring sheet. This is especially true for little hands that haven’t fully developed fine motor coordination yet. For young children, you might also consider this back to school coloring sheet.

Free Printable Star Templates of Various Sizes

The last of the free printable star templates features a variety of stars in different sizes. This star PDF is great for decoration. For example, use it as a textbook or notebook cover or the background for a scrapbook page. It could also of course, be used as a coloring sheet.
