Lawyer-lobbyists continue to grow their earnings, which were up 3% in 2023, led by Gibbons, McCarter & English and Optimus Partners, while overall lobbying expenditures rose slightly for the third straight year.

Overall lobbying expenditures were up just 1.1% to $96.1 million from $95.1 million last year, according to the annual report issued by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. In recent years, the total amount spent on lobbying has not come close to the 2020 spending high of $106.81 million. Despite the leveling off of lobbying expenditures, lawyer-lobbyists receipts continue to rise, up 3% in 2023.
