The Virginia State Bar is seeking feedback on a proposed addition to professional rules of conduct that would prohibit lawyers from entering into an agreement to prevent their clients from filing a disciplinary complaint against them.
The proposed amendment would add a paragraph “(f)” under Rule 8.4 and would prohibit a lawyer from making an agreement with a client or former client limiting the client or former client’s right to file or pursue a lawyer disciplinary complaint, according to statement by the bar.
