A federal judge in Maryland has ordered nail salon owners to pay two employees nearly $70,000 in damages after finding violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Maryland Wage and Hour Law.

In a Feb. 24 opinion, following a five-day bench trial, a Maryland district court held that owners of Zen Nails Studio violated the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Maryland Wage and Hour Law (MWHL) by failing to pay the plaintiffs, their employees, for overtime, and failing to pay them Maryland’s minimum wage at numerous points in their employment.
