Formerly known as the Court of Appeals of Maryland, the state high court will now be dubbed the Supreme Court of Maryland. Additionally, the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland will now be known as the Appellate Court of Maryland, according to an opinion filed Thursday by the state supreme court.

Maryland appellate courts are seeing a bit of re-branding go into effect this week after voters supported changing the formal names of the courts in November.
During the Nov. 8 general election, Maryland voters were asked to ratify a constitutional amendment changing the names of the state high court and intermediate appellate court. Both name changes took effect Wednesday.
