The Colorado Court of Appeals has sided with a student who slipped and fell on a recently-mopped staircase, finding the University of Colorado failed to warn the plaintiff of the dangerous condition.

The student, Jordan Galef, brought a single premises liability claim against the university after he slipped and fell down the stairs of his dormitory. Galef claims he did not see the black floor was wet and he alleges that a university employee mopping the staircase had not displayed a “wet floor” sign. Galef dislocated his shoulder and required surgery, according to the court’s opinion filed Thursday.
