PARALEGAL PAY - The Pacific region is the best for paralegal hourly pay, according to a survey by ALM Intelligence and the International Paralegal Management Association. The region, which includes Washington, Oregon and California had the highest billing rate, at $347 per hour, and also the highest hourly pay at $59 per hour. That’s higher than the national average billing rate of about $300 per hour, and average hourly pay of $50, Patrick Smith reports. On the other end of the spectrum, was the East South Central region, which includes Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky, according to the annual Compensation Survey for Paralegals, Practice Support Professionals and Managers. There, paralegals earned an average pay of $36 per hour.

FIGHTING THE GREAT RESIGNATION -  In-house lawyers are fighting the Great Resignation by becoming more purposeful, Jessica Mach reports, citing a McKinsey & Co. study that found nearly two-thirds of U.S.-based employees surveyed said COVID-19 had caused them to reflect on their purpose in life. Nearly half were reconsidering the kind of work they do because of the pandemic, and millennials were three times more likely than others to say that they were reevaluating work, McKinsey found. “People expect more of their employer today,” said Betsy Tucci, general counsel of Los Angeles-based InStride. “It is not just the place where you show up and you do your 8-5, and you go home. It is a community, it is an enabler, it is an opportunity to make an impact.”
