Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr and Lawyers for Civil Rights filed a racial bias lawsuit against the Town of Needham, Massachusetts, Needham Police Chief John Schlittler and four white police officers Wednesday in Massachusetts District Court. The suit pursues civil rights claims on behalf of Marvin Hendry, a Black man who contends that he was wrongfully accosted, arrested and detained while shopping at a CVS. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages and a court order requiring the municipality to conduct training on implicit bias and other policing practices. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 1:21-cv-11116, Henry v. Town of Needham et al.
