President Joe Biden’s nomination on Wednesday of Eunice Lee, an appellate attorney with the Federal Defenders of New York, to serve as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit made good on the administration’s promise to bring more professional diversity to the federal bench.

If confirmed, Lee would become just the second Black woman to sit on the Manhattan-based appeals court, which to date has never counted a former federal defender among its ranks.
