A federal judge in Manhattan on Tuesday ordered the former Davis Polk & Wardwell associate who sued the firm for racial discrimination to show good cause as to why he missed a key discovery deadline in early March.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Woods of the Southern District of New York gave plaintiff Kaloma Cardwell until Monday to file a motion about why he should be allowed to file his document requests and written interrogatories even though he missed a March 2 deadline and never requested an extension of time from the court. Woods also ordered Cardwell to respond to Davis Polk’s discovery requests by July 18.
