NOLLE PROS – George Floyd’s death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer could spur more law firms to end their partnerships with local prosecutors’ offices, David Thomas reports. So far, however, only one firm has taken that step: Dorsey & Whitney, saying it intends to be “part of the solution,” terminated a more than 40-year-old program in which its associates would gain courtroom experience by helping the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office prosecute misdemeanor cases. But Craig Futterman, a law professor at the University of Chicago and the director of the civil rights and police accountability project at the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic, said more firms should shift their pro bono resources away from assisting with prosecutions, which are already well-funded by taxpayers.
