In a music world of vapid and uninspiring singers, there is one rare and precious gem. His name is Giacomo Gates. He is the only male vocalist who is capable and naturally gifted today to own the title "jazz singer".
This recording "Everything Is Cool" is simply brilliant. Giacomo explores and appropriately expresses the essence of an era in jazz we call The Golden Age. His treatment of the Gigi Gryce classic "Social Call" and Babs Gonzales' "when Lovers They Lose is sheer bliss. Gates carefully selected tunes he relates to. He puts his special spin on the Oscar Brown Jr. standard "Hazel's Hips" as we'll as Frank Rosalino's "Please Don't Bug Me. When listening to Monk's "We'll You Needn't " it allowed me to feel like I was at the Five Spot in 1957.
Having the acute insight to close with Lenny Bruce's poem " All Alone "
Is pure genius. There is only one word to describe Giacomo Gates and that is unique. "Everything Is Cool"
Is one to own and cherish. You dig?

He keeps evolving and thankfully sticks with the vocalizing; his voice is his instrument and his "chops" are well-schooled in the tradition. When he's cooling out on "Take Five," we can see "Hazel's Hips" making us feel "Almost Blue." Giacomo keeps everything cool on roads rarely taken these days, The band lays out a mellow carpet for Giacomo Gates to dance on, so cool!
