Nebraska planting picks up a little

Nebraska farmers had good fieldwork conditions for about half of last week, which allowed some of them to begin planting.

USDA reporters say as of Sunday, six percent of the state’s corn is planted, which is 1% above the average.

Soybean planting is on track for an average year with 2% now planted.

Seventy-one percent of the oats are planted, ahead of the 60% average.  Thirty-six percent of the oats have emerged, which is ahead of the 20% average.

Topsoil moisture is reported to be surplus in 4% of Nebraska’s fields, with 51% having adequate moisture and 33% short of moisture.  Subsoil ratings are 4% surplus, 46% adequate, and 39% short.
