Our Citrix Session Recording team continues to make enhancements to improve admin experience and keep environments secure. In the Citrix Session Recording 2203 release, we introduced dynamic recording capabilities, which can reduce recording file size to help customers optimize storage consumption. Though this creates potential for huge cost savings, we wanted to give organizations more visibility into how much storage Session Recording is consuming.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that we have officially released Session Recording 2206 with new capabilities that deliver more granular insights to admins. In this release, we’ve introduced regular session recording storage reports, and we’ve also added support for additional event response actions that gives IT admins more control over the session they’re monitoring. Let’s unpack what these new capabilities can do for you.

Regular Session Recording Storage Reports

Once a Session Recording farm is constructed, recording files are generated and require storage. As the volume of recorded sessions grow, it’s important to know if you have enough free storage or if you need to take action, like archiving old recordings.

Session Recording Storage Report Property

We wanted to make gaining visibility into your environments more seamless than ever. Now, every session recording admin will get regular storage notification reports delivered via email. These Session Recording storage reports can provide a seven-day overview of basis statistics on screen recordings of a single or multiple load-balanced Session Recording servers. You can configure the reports to generate each day or once per week. With its charts and figures, the report can help you to get better insights into your storage consumption status with metrics like:

  • Total size of all recordings: The accumulated size of all recordings generated in the last seven days.
  • Storage usage per day: How much storage your recordings are taking up, per day, for the last seven days.
  • Number of sessions recorded per day: How many sessions have been generated the last seven days.

Support Additional Event Response Actions

In previous releases, when specific user events occurred within a session that triggered abnormal or tagged behaviors, we added the ability to send an email alert or start a screen recording. It’s useful to capture what happened within a user’s session during that period for later review. However, in circumstances where malicious behavior is occurring within a session, the session needs to terminate the ongoing activity immediately to prevent serious consequences such as leakage of data.

With Citrix Session Recording 2206, we have added additional actions to give admins greater control. These new actions include:

  • Lock session: The current Windows session is locked while session recording is still live. The right credentials are required to unlock the session. This can help IT admins confirm the user’s identity and prevent access to the session by someone else.
  • Disconnect session: The user is disconnected from the current Windows session, and the session recording is ended. The user can reconnect with the Windows session to resume where they left off if defined policies are met. IT admins can set reminders, too, to tell users to avoid activities such as file transfers.
  • Log off session: Here, the current windows session is terminated, and session recording is ended. This is the strictest control, keeping a user away from the system by shutting the session down.

As shown in the image below, you can easily escalate your security level with just a few clicks, which can help you spot suspicious events. This feature is also supported in Session Recording service. Learn more in our product documentation.
