[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] So, I’m having something of a love-in with e.l.f. right now – you know when you get passionate about one product, it makes you want to try the rest out? I am sure that I’ve featured Wow Brow before but when I wrote about the eye crayon several people mentioned Wow Brow as their go-to so I felt it needs another outing and for me to put it through its paces again.
Unfortunately for me I’ve picked the very day that the entire e.l.f. site is down for maintenance but I think I’m correct in saying there is no grey option. Which has opened a whole can of worms because grey brow products are rare as hen’s teeth it seems. This is prime time for anyone who has discovered that grey is great during lock down to want complimentary make up products. Grey hair can change your perception of skin tone and the one main thing you can do to ensure you keep your features prominent is keep your brows a shade or two deeper than your hair – it makes a huge difference. I say one main thing – there are two and the other is to invest in a bright lipstick (preferably red) – I’ve yet to meet the grey haired woman who doesn’t look amazing with a bright lip.
But the issue really, is that brands like e.l.f. and the myriad of like brands, is that very few think further than the age of 25. Hello, we are here! With cash! There’s absolutely a gap in the market for a grey brow gel – your options are pretty much, in the UK at least, Benefit’s Gimme Brow Volumising Eyebrow Gel in Grey which is excellent but £22.50 (HERE), a GOSH Grey Brown version, £4.99 HERE, and a recent find, MUA Brow Define Sculpting Gel in Grey at a more reasonable £4 HERE . I find it a very striking look particularly if you still have a few deeper strands amongst the lighter tones. If your grey still has brown tones to it, you’ll be fine with an e.l.f. version (or GOSH Grey Brown) which works as well as any other I’ve tried – I’m wearing Brunette today which is not the dark brown shock I’ve had with other brands using the same name. It’s a gentler version and almost my natural colour but takes it deeper by a bit and a half, and just gives extra shape and definition. I’ve been wary of fibre gels in the past because I don’t personally need more brow, I just need tidy brow, and this fits that bill to perfection. Superdrug has it HERE. I’ve been through every page of ‘brow gels’ on Superdrug and have found only two in grey which is a much bigger story than whether you have tidy brows or not.

Absolutely…..silver/steel hair and red lips is the cat’s pyjamas.
I use a grey/taupe eyebrow pencil (the best I’ve ever used, irrespective of price, even beats MAC legendary Linger, and the paler Fling) and a greyish brow gel, both by Catrice. (Any hint of red in the brow makes me look like an Aunt Sally on drugs. )
I didn’t realise GOSH or MUA were still going, as they both vanished from my Irish city a good while back. Both had items I still crave…..hurrah!

so welcome! I swear BB used to do a grey brow gel but there’s just a pencil now.
I find that bafflingly few companies do grey or taupes of anything brow lately, not just youth marketed ones, and so many products have such red undertones. Anyway, in America those of use who care about not getting covid are still having to stay in our houses, so it’s not like I can go look at anything anyway. 🙁
I found quite a lot of taupes – just few greys – you have one or two more options in the US – I think Clinique has a grey brow powder.
You know, the best ‘cool-but-non-bluey‘ mid grey powder I ever had (and still have a bit left of, in an ancient Bobbi Brown neutrals mini-palette), is her ‘Cement’. Madly useful for eye contouring etc, and just perfect for brows….especially over a clear gel application. I’d forgotten all about this! Still available, and well worth considering. I must see that Clinique one, thank you.
About ‘bricks and mortar’ shopping right now…..I went to town here last week, after staying in since mid-March, and bought a few longed-for bits at Chanel, with no testers to go by. You’d have thought I was embarking on intricate brain surgery, such was my nervousness. Fortunately it all suits very well, but the proper retail therapy experience will be a long time returning I’d say.
I agree – it’s nerve-wracking at first and feels so strange – I’m having a manicure next week (I haven’t had one in literally years) because it’s important to support the beauty industry at this time and write up the experience but I am conflicted about it.

I don’t think it’s a question of emphasising anything but the colour – a streak of colour – no matter how slender the landing strip – will always make an impact. Anyway, by whose standards are we measuring thinness or thickness of lips? You have what you have – go and enjoy :-))))
NYX do a decent taupe but here’s another shout out for a better grey brow selection. A big problem now is not being able to test things out but some of your suggestions are not too spendy so worth a punt. Although I’m a salt and pepper brunette I tend to go for the cool blonde option on brows.
Grey brow products – yes, that’s such a great observation (sorry I missed that!) ; as the population of older folk increases businesses are really missing out. I guess they assume that everyone rushes to the bleach / blonde look as the alternative. SUQQU have a grey brow pen (but that’s spendy).
I’ve been noticing that some fashion brands (eg &other stories and even, gasp,, H&M), have a couple of models now that look over 30, but beauty and fashion overall have been so slow starting a conversation with those potential loyal customers.
RE: Red lipstick and silver hair – you’re so right – it always such a knockout combination. I bought my mum one of the Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon lipsticks and she loves it!

I often look at Asian make up brands for cooler toned brow products (I know you like a YesStyle browse!)
I have dark but cool toned eyebrows and just want a bit of natural filling in. Etude House did a great cool mid taupe with a pencil crayon one end and a powder the other but it has been discontinued 🙁 They do still have a similar crayon with a grey brown and dark grey though!
