Thursday's roundup: 7-time All-Star St. Louis retires

Associated Press

New York — Rangers forward Martin St. Louis is retiring after 16 seasons, seven All-Star selections and one Stanley Cup with the Lightning.

St. Louis made the announcement Thursday, roughly a month after helping the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference finals, where they lost to the Lightning in seven games. He had 52 points (21 goals) during the regular season, and seven points (one goal) in 19 playoffs games.

The 40-year-old St. Louis was uncertain whether he would return for another season after the Rangers were eliminated, but it was clear New York was not going to bring the hard-working 5-foot-8 veteran back.

St. Louis had 1,033 points (391 goals) in 1,134 regular-season games with the Flames, Lightning and Rangers. He was the league's top scorer twice (1994, 2013) and the NHL's MVP.

He was the players association's Most Outstanding Player in 1994.
