Williams Gertrude2Williams: Gertrude Christine “Gertie”,

Gertrude Christine “Gertie” Williams (née McCall) was born on Nov 21, 1938 in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia and passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston.

Gertie was the beloved wife of the late John “Ralph” Williams and shared many happy years with her dear partner, the late Hugh “Tex” Critchlow. She was a devoted mother of Lisa Anne, Cheryl Lynn (Stephen Masson), and Denise Caryn (Shawn Beattie). The most precious people in her life were her 6 grandchildren, Crystal Beattie(JC), Jake Beattie, Kaleb Williams-Forde, Keara Masson, Riley Williams-Forde, and Lauren Masson.

Dear sister of Lillian (the late Roy Torrey), Theresa (the late Ross Hardy), Gloria (Calvin Langille), the late Howard McCall (late Margaret McCall), and the late Peter McCall (Joan McCall). Gertie will be fondly missed by her extended family and the many friends whose lives she touched.

For more than 50 years, Gertie was an active member of the Tottenham community and a pillar of the Church of the Evangelists (formerly Christ Church). Her dedication, love, faith, and desire to be in service to others touched many lives, especially as the inaugural and longest serving Sunday School Leader. She loved to “make a joyful noise” by entertaining crowds of people with her guitar in weekly services, bible camps, at residential care facilities, and celebrations. In support of the church, Gertie organized garage sales, roast beef dinners, barbeques, and bake sales, featuring her famous “Gertie pies”. In support of the community, she was best known and most proud of the creation of the community outreach program, the “Soup and Sandwich”, which provided great home cooked food and even better company for many people over many years, which is still greatly missed and talked about today.
Her kind heart, compassion, and love for others also lead her into a career as a Personal Support Worker at Simcoe Manor, where she worked for many years.
Her family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham (905-936-3477), on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held at Church of the Evangelists, 99 Queen St. N., Tottenham, on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in Gertie’s honour. A reception will follow in the church hall.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Matthews House Hospice for their exceptional care, respect, and warm support during this difficult time.

They would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude for the continued outpouring of thoughts and prayers from friends, family, and members of her church over the last few months.
Arrangements entrusted to Rod Abrams Funeral Home. To honour Gertie’s legacy of service, donations can be made to the Church of the Evangelists and Matthews House Hospice. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.
