M38A1 Revival: Turning a Non-Running Roller into a Trail Machine
2026-03-05 19:40 UTC by Kaiser Willys

I got this M38A1 a year ago as a non-running roller out of the Santa Cruz mountains. It has been passed around between friends for at least 25 years after the original owner passed. It was his hunting rig. With Kaiser Willys, I was able to get it road-worthy. It still needs a lot of work but it’s slowly getting there. As far as I can tell the Jeep may have been with the 9th Ord Co back in the day. Converted it over to 12v with a 100a alternator and an Optima BlueTop. ’90s Toyota Land Cruiser Starter as well. It has Geo Tracker 4-wheel disc brakes. Will be converting the single master for a VJ dual-master and I’m in the process of rebuilding the original T90A to a T90C. Still waiting on some 3.15 gears. Powertrax Lockers front and rear and eventually a Saturn Overdrive then it will be done. I have no plans on repainting it.
