How about this idea? How about all the photography-related posts on the public free blog, and off-topic posts added to the Patreon version?
Note that the Patreon version (you can see the two posts I've put up there so far by going to patreon.com/theonlinephotographer , although I have to figure out how to get rid of that "Featured Products" block which I don't like) has the first part of each post as free public content—anyone can see it. Those people can pay a one-time fee to see the rest of one specific post if they really want to. Patreon contributors see all of every post at Patreon without ever having to pay anything extra.
That gives "Mike fans" (contributors) posts on my random enthusiasms, but keep the public TOP centered more on photographic topics and subjects. That way, visitors to a site called the online photographer don't come for the first time and find a long post about pens, dogs, the weather in the Finger Lakes, keyboards, eating beans, baby robins, or whatever I'm on about.
Of course it also means Patreon contributors might have to toggle back and forth if they want to see the more polished presentation (man, I hope those words don't come back to bite me) on the public free blog site.
