As you may or may not know, I am parent of a child with autism. Our oldest son has high-functioning autism (Asperger’s) and ADHD, and yes, we DO have the shirt you see above literally in our house.  I know there’s lots of Homeschool Parents out there, and also Parents of Kiddos with Autism. I want to share a letter and an amazing giveaway with you. I’ve done something like this before in the past, and it’s something we all need to hear again!
It’s something I wrote for all the Homeschool Moms (and Dads) of Kids with Autism out there… and if you are a parent of a kiddo with autism, I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to contact me via email or leave a comment below. I’d love to hear from you!
Dear Homeschool Mom (or Dad) of a Child with Autism,
First and foremost, I want you to know that you are doing a GREAT JOB. Has anyone ever told you that before? I want you to never forget this — you are doing a great job. You are an awesome parent.
However, I know you are tired. I know there are many tears, much pain, and many struggles. I know, because I live the autism life too. I feel the fear, the worry, and the looks of other parents who do not know the daily struggles. I know the loneliness you sometimes feel even when you are surrounded by people, and the constant worry for your child’s future and your child’s dreams. Will your child ever have a job? Will they live at home with you? What happens to them after you’re gone? I know the many worries you have!
You’ve made the decision to homeschool your unique child who is a gift from God… a child with many special gifts, and you should be proud of your decision. You are going the extra mile for your child, and remember – you are doing a great job. Please don’t worry about what others think of you. You are doing what you believe is best for your child, and you are awesome. I am so proud of you.
Take each day one day at a time. Pray, pray, and pray some more.
Mom (or Dad) of a Child with Autism — You are doing your best, and yes, that is enough. You are a great parent, and I want you to never forget that!
