A Heartfelt Thank You to CCC Council Members Rotating Off

Today marks the end of the following CCC Council member’s terms. We would like to thank each of them for their exceptional dedication and service to CCC and to the broader computing research community, and to highlight some of their most notable accomplishments below:

 

David Danks, University of California San Diego

 

David joined the council in 2021 and served on CCC’s Executive Committee. During his time with CCC, David engaged in CCC’s responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) from various government agencies, in total assisting with 26 responses. David also helped organize the Future of Pandemic Prevention and Response workshop and engaged with several CCC-sponsored AAAS sessions.

 

Chandra Krintz, University of California Santa Barbara

 

Chandra joined the council in 2021 and served on CCC’s Sustainable Computing task force since her first year, becoming the task force’s chair in 2024. Chandra organized 6 workshops, roundtables, and AAAS sessions focused on various aspects of sustainable computing and computing for sustainability. She also assisted CCC in 5 responses to RFIs, and authored one workshop report and one whitepaper on Intelligent Infrastructure for Smart Agriculture.

 

Dan Lopresti, Lehigh University

 

Dan joined the council in 2015 and served as Vice Chair from 2020-2022, Chair of the council from 2022-2024, and finally Chair Emeritus from 2024-2025. Throughout his tenure on the council, Dan participated in CCC’s RFI responses, co-authoring 26 responses. Dan also co-authored 16 whitepapers, and organized 4 workshops and 2 AAAS sessions. Among the many, many efforts Dan took part in during his 10 years on the CCC council, he was especially passionate about the joint workshop with Code 8.7 on Applying AI in the Fight Against Modern Slavery.

 

Rada Mihalcea, University of Michigan

 

Rada joined the council in 2022 and participated in several task forces, including the Human-Centered Computing, Computational Challenges in Healthcare, and Sustainable Computing task forces. Rada co-organized the Future of Pandemic Prevention and Response workshop and co-authored the resulting workshop report.

 

Raj Rajaraman, Northeastern University

 

Raj joined the council in 2022 and has led the Grand Challenges task force since 2024. As task force chair, Raj co-organized a series of roundtable discussions and led a session at the CRA’s 2024 Snowbird conference to identify the next grand challenges in computing research. He also co-authored 6 CCC RFI responses.

 

Matthew Turk, Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago

 

Matthew joined the council in 2022 and served as chair of the Addressing the Unforeseen Deleterious Impacts of Technology (AUDIT) task force, which produced a whitepaper and several blog posts addressing the negative impacts of technology on individuals and society. Matthew also co-authored 9 RFI responses with CCC and organized a AAAS session on Generative AI in Science.

 

Pam Wisniewski, Socio-Technical Interaction Research (STIR) Lab

 

Pam joined the council in 2022 and served as the Catalyzing Interdisciplinary Computing Research task force chair, organizing 5 roundtables and co-authoring 3 Best Practices documents to guide Funders, Researchers, and Organizational Leadership on carrying out interdisciplinary research. Pam also co-authored 6 RFI responses, 1 whitepaper on Algorithmic Robustness, and co-organized the Supporting At-Risk Users through Responsible Computing workshop.

 

Holly Yanco, University of Massachusetts Lowell

 

Holly joined the council in 2020 and played an active role in all-things robotics during her term. She co-authored a whitepaper on Robotics Enabling the Workforce and the Mid-cycle Update to the US National Robotics Roadmap. Holly also co-organized the Meta-Hybrid workshop in 2021, a AAAS session on Improving Mental Health with Technology, and participated in a panel discussion on the future of Robotics and Autonomy at CCC’s 2025 Symposium.

 

As these distinguished individuals conclude their terms, their impact on the computing research landscape is clear. Their collective efforts have not only advanced specific fields but have also significantly shaped CCC’s strategic direction and its ability to respond to critical national needs. We extend our deepest gratitude to David, Chandra, Dan, Rada, Raj, Matthew, Pam, and Holly for their invaluable contributions. Their dedication leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit the computing community and society at large.
