William Congreve, the English Playwright wrote these lines for his 1697 play, The Mourning Bride :

Music has Charms to soothe the savage Breast,
To soften Rocks and Bend a Knotted Oak

Many of us remember the first line which is often misquoted as "Music soothes the savage beast".  The poet and playwright meant soothing the heart. Indeed, music is part of our lives and enriches us in many ways.

BBC Last Night of the Proms

I've never been but I sometimes enjoy watching the BBC Proms on Youtube. The Proms (short for "Promenade") is an 8 week concert series held every year since the late 19th century. This music festival is usually conducted in the Royal Albert Hall in London, but has also toured around the UK. A lot of the concerts feature classical music but as you can see from this 3 min overview of the 2023 season, other music is also included. Performers are from all over the world.

What makes the Last night of the Proms so special is the finale where the audience thoroughly enjoy and fully participate in the rousing patriotic songs from the UK's past.

Pomp and Circumstance ("Land of Hope and Glory") (2014 Proms)
Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 in D major (1904) is easily recognizable as it is often played at graduations etc. Land of Hope and Glory is a British favourite as an alternative national anthem.

Jerusalem (2018 Proms)
Poem by William Blake (1804). Music by Hubert Parry who composed it during WWI. The beautiful music certainly captures the heartfelt feelings of a nation at war.

Rule, Britannia (2012 Proms)
Composed and written by James Thompson and Thomas Arne (1740).  The singers (soprano or tenor) usually dress up in some way.

The rousing chorus!

Rule, Britannia, Britannia Rules the Waves
We shall, never, never, never shall be slaves

This song was written at a time when Barbary pirates from North Africa ravaged European coastlines and ships, carrying off a great many people to be sold into slavery. The British Navy eventually put a stop to the piracy. It is a very controversial song because at the same time, the British Empire itself was actively engaged in slavery and colonialism. The Abolition of Slavery Act came in 1834. The only people compensated when that happened were the slave owners.
