Althea Starling

Althea Jett Starling, age 89, of Russellville, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence. Born July 6, 1935, to Theophilus and Mae Ola Jett, Althea was a hardworking and independent woman.
A true Southern lady, she had the gift of hospitality and was beloved for her cooking, sense of humor, and devotion to her family. Althea worked alongside her husband, Roy Earl Starling, and lovingly cared for their children. She worshipped faithfully at the North Highlands Church of Christ, Russellville.
Althea and Earl made their home and raised their children in Apopka and worshipped locally with the Church of Christ.
On Saturday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a graveside service at Edgewood-Greenwood Cemetery in Apopka, Florida. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. There will be another service in Alabama.
Althea is survived by her children: Alison Starling Gilliam, Nancy Starling Foster (Joe), John Ivey Starling II (Tena), Adrienne Starling Moore, and Carmen Hemlock Daniels (Mark); her brother, A.J. Jett (Carolyn); 17 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy Earl Starling, grandson Wallace Burch, sons-in-law Kenneth Gilliam and Monte Moore, five brothers, and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Althea’s memory to Mount Dora Children’s Home, 301 W. 13th Avenue, Mount Dora, FL 32757.
