Torrey Lamar Moss Sr., age 54. Born October 10, 1969 in Lorain, OH to the late Anthony Q. and Joan L. Moss (M. Watson), passed away unexpectedly the morning of May 10, 2024.

Torrey spent his early years surrounded by family in Lorain. He had a very close relationship with his grandmother, Dora “Gin” DelRio (d.2006), as well as his aunts, uncles, and many cousins. He relocated through his childhood and teen years, living in Middletown, OH and Colorado Springs, Co.

Torrey graduated from Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, CO and was a well-known football star in high school, an accomplishment that earned him a full ride scholarship to Arizona State University. Torrey went on to earn a degree from Ohio State University in 2010, where his focus of study was Criminal Justice and law. He was an entrepreneur, whose barbecue sauce, a recipe developed by him and his father, and eventually perfected by Torrey, was sold in many grocery stores. He was very passionate about his business and worked tirelessly to put his vision into action. Torrey also had a desire to change the lives of people facing struggles similar to the ones he experienced throughout his life. A desire he carried out through his work as a substance abuse counselor.

He shared his love of music with his children Torrey Jr. and Iyanna, and had a very broad appreciation for all genres. His gift of being an excellent singer was passed to his daughter, Iyanna, who was also known for her beautiful voice and his talent for playing multiple instruments was something shared with Torrey Jr. Torrey loved Cadillac’s and at one point had a beautiful collection of his favorite car.

Torrey was a charismatic man, he faced no challenges when it came to making friends, many friendships developed into family for him as he was adored by many. He has been described often as the life of the party, a smooth talker, and a leader. He loved gathering with those he cared about for a cookout and showing up to the events of loved ones to show his support. He was unforgettable for many, for some he was a mentor, a big brother, and an example of perseverance. Torrey was the embodiment of an individuals ability to change their own circumstances for the better, at any moment. He was outspoken and never hesitated to let people know how he felt, and the stories many have of his bold personality will withstand time.

He was preceded in death by his father Anthony, (d.1999); his grandmother, Dora (d.2006); his daughter, Iyanna (d.2015); and his mother, Joan (d.2019).

He is survived by his children, Maureen (Joshua), Torrey Jr., Lisa, and Paetyn; his grandchildren, Nathalia, Daniel, Maura, Olivia, and Harper; his brothers, Emmanuel and Anthony Jr. He will be missed by his aunt, Nick of Toledo, whom adored him deeply; his step-children and their mother, Jamie Waugh of Columbus, as well as their children, and his large family full of many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Torrey’s memory will live on through those who knew and loved him.

  9. Grace Moss and Family,
We are still in disbelief, of the passing of Torrey Moss. God knows our boundaries and our habitation. Only He knows the day that we will come in this world, the day that we will leave this world, and no one has control of that. We have no words right now, Torrey was very dear to me as a son, and a good brother to Emmanuel Moss, and John Moss. We loved him dearly and this does not seem real. I want to say to his children to be encouraged, trust in God, that He knows best. We love you all, and we are here if you need us. We are unable to come, but our prayers are with you all!

  10. I love y’all I’m here in spirit I just couldn’t come to the funeral. Gone but never ever ever forgotten
