First Cadillac CT6 nets $200K in auction for Karmanos

General Motors Co. said the first retail production version of its top-of-the-range 2016 Cadillac CT6 was auctioned Friday to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute; the car sold for $200,000 in the auction, according to a tweet from Karmanos.

Cadillac said proceeds from the auction, conducted by the Barrett-Jackson auction house during its 13th annual Palm Beach auction in Palm Beach, Florida, will help expand the institute's intensive care unit and develop a 24-hour acute car clinic to serve Karmanos patients.

Cadillac said the winner, a dealer from Ohio, will be able to select the car's color and receive personal delivery from Ed Welburn, vice president of GM global design, at the GM Design studio in Warren. The luxury car will be built beginning later this year at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant.

GM executive Bob Ferguson, senior vice president of global public policy, and his wife Debra are co-chairs of Karmanos' annual dinner April 25 at the GM Design Dome. It marks the fifth year in a row that a GM leader has chaired the event.

The GM Foundation earlier this year donated $500,000 to Karmanos to support cancer research.
