2024 Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale sets new record

The 2024 Illinois Performance Tested (IPT) Bull Sale has resulted in the highest average price in the sale’s 56-year history.

Travis Meteer, sale manager, says 43 bulls averaged nearly 5-thousand dollars in last week’s sale…

“We had phenomenal weather.” He says, “We had a great crowd. We continue to reach new heights, I think, in marketing the premier genetics that are supplied to us by a great group of consigners.”

He says the new record was not necessarily a surprise…

“It’s always hard to predict, but given cattle price and what fed cattle are worth, and feeder cattle are worth,” he says, “I think it was somewhat expected to see our bull prices creep up as producers start to invest in those genetics.”

Meteer tells Brownfield the IPT Bull Sale follows some of the strictest performance standards in the industry…

“We do set strict requirements based on EPD’s and dollar index values.” He says, “We have strict herd health requirements. All the bulls in the sale this year, they have a complete bull fertility evaluation and passed the breeding soundness exam. There’s a list on our website.”

In total, nearly 5-thousand bulls have sold for over 9-million dollars in the annual sale’s history.
