2 abducted Indiana teens found; 1 was in Detroit
Detroit — Authorities say two teenagers who were reportedly abducted at gunpoint from an Indianapolis home on Monday have been released unharmed.
Indianapolis police said Monday night that 16-year-old Aaron Blackwell was freed from his alleged abductors in Detroit after a chase by authorities. Police said early Tuesday morning that his sister, 13-year-old Emma Blackwell, had been returned home safely.
Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens confirmed three suspects were in custody in connection with the alleged abduction.
It wasn't immediately clear if the 16-year-old also was back in Indianapolis Tuesday.
An Amber Alert was issued Monday for the teens. Authorities haven't given a motive for the abductions.
Officer Christopher Wilburn says the teens were last seen early Monday at their home on Indianapolis' east side. Wilburn says an unknown male abducted them.
By evening, the story took another twist. One of the teens, Aaron, was found unharmed in Detroit, and the three suspects were taken into custody.
One of the suspects was arrested earlier Monday and two others were captured in the evening, Detroit police said.
Indianapolis police spokesman Rafael Diaz Jr. said Monday evening Aaron was freed uninjured from his alleged abductors after a chase by authorities.
The Detroit Police Department worked with a multi-agency task force to find the teens and those who allegedly took them.
Additional details weren't being released. The investigation was ongoing, Detroit police said.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the teens were taken early Monday from the 1200 block of LaSalle in Indianapolis.
The alert said the children were last seen around 3 a.m. Monday and were reportedly "abducted at gun point by armed suspects."
Indianapolis police originally said the children were "likely abducted by an unknown male" but offered no further information about the suspect or a description of a vehicle.
In an email Monday night, Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw had said "it is believed that the suspect and children may be heading to the Detroit Area."
