Pain around dental implants indicates inflammation which if untreated, can lead to peri-implantitis and loss of surrounding bone and gum tissue. Early peri-implantitis may be treatable, but in more advanced cases, removal of the implant may be the only viable and predictable option. The ridge can be grafted to restore any defect and then a new implant can be replaced.
