Reasons to Keep the Lord's Day Holy #5. Keeping the Lord's Day Holy is the 4th
Commandment. It is plain that all the 10 commandments reflect the character of God and
define love for Him and love for our neighbor. There is no rational basis for one of them to
have been annulled so that we no longer have to keep it. Remember the sabbath day, to
keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a
sabbath of the LORD your God; ...." (Exodus 20:8-10a)

The Christian is bred by the Word and must be fed by it. William Gurnall
Ephesians 1:3-4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose
us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before
Him. In love"
Romans 8:3-4 "For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did:
sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He
condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us,
who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."
Helpful Quotes
A man adopts one for his son and heir that does not at all resemble him, but whosoever
God adopts for His child is like Him; he not only bears His heavenly Fathers name, but His
image. Col. 3:10. Thomas Watson
In the first creation, God made man after His own image. So in the second creation or
regeneration, God does create men after His own image, in knowledge, righteousness, true
holiness, and love. Vavasor Powell
The Bible is the statutebook of Gods Kingdom, wherein is comprised the whole body of
the heavenly law, the perfect rules of a holy life, and the sure promises of a glorious
one. Ezekiel Hopkins
As there is need of no law to compel the body to eat or drink, to digest, to sleep.... or to do
the works of nature, for it is ready to do them of itself when the case so requires, without
respect either of reward or punishment.... even so, after the same sort altogether, does the
godly man behave himself concerning the works of godliness. He is carried to the doing of
them by his new nature, which is of the Spirit. Daniel Cawdray
