Plans for a Wawa in southern York County are continuing along, according to recent Penn Township Planning Commission minutes.

Representatives for the company presented additional information on the project during the Aug. 7 meeting of the Penn Township Planning Commission, according to the minutes.

Justin Geonnotti, from Dynamic Engineering, shared that the plans for the Wawa occupy roughly two acres of what is currently Pine Creek Structures at 1007 Baltimore Street in Penn Township. The Wawa will have 69 parking spaces, eight fuel pumps with 16 fueling positions, and a fueling canopy that will be located closer to the Clover Lane side of the lot.

All access to the Wawa will be through the current shopping center at Penn Plaza. There will be three landscaped islands toward the Baltimore Street side of the lot.

In a file photo, the sign for a Wawa store is seen.

In the commission meeting, representatives for the project requested a design waiver for the Baltimore Street portion of the parking area. With the Pine Creek Structures lot being so narrow, the separation of the right-of-way line is only seven feet, the request said, meaning the plans do not meet the township's required buffer yard space.

In order to compensate for that, project representatives are proposing that the parking area will sit below the level of the sidewalk on Baltimore Street, with a retaining wall and aluminium fence to prevent anyone from falling from the sidewalk, the request states.

The commission moved for a favorable recommendation on the plans, with a condition the waiver is submitted to the Board of Commissioners for a waiver of exemption for a Land Development Plan and Stormwater Management Plan, with a 4-3 motion carrying.
