Dave Brandon's tenure as Michigan's athletic director

Dave Brandon, former athletic director Bill Martin and University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman cut the ribbon to open the renovated and rededicated Michigan Stadium before the start of the 2010 season.

In Sept. 9, 2010, Michigan's Board of Regents approves $1.8 million for permanent lighting at Michigan Stadium. The first big event under the lights was the Big Chill at the Big House, the outdoor hockey game between Michigan and Michigan State, on Dec. 11, 2010.

Dave Brandon's personal game-day experience includes giving speeches at alumni tailgate parties, appearing on a pre-game radio show, shaking lots of hands, posing for tons of pictures with fans, and standing by the team during the national anthem.

On May 25, 2010, Michigan admitted major NCAA violations by the football program under coach Rich Rodriguez. On Jan. 5, 2011, Brandon announced Rodriguez's firing.

In February 2012, Brandon Commissioner of the NHL Gary Bettman announce that the 2013 NHL Winter Classic will be played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

Brandon gives a tour of the Big House after announcing that the Guinness International Champions Cup soccer match would be played there on Aug. 2, 2014. The game between Real Madrid and Manchester United set an attendance record for watching soccer in the U.S.

After a year's delay the NHL Winter Classic is played at Michigan Stadium on Jan. 1, 2014, with the Toronto Maple Leafs defeating the Detroit Red Wings.

Michigan quarterback Shane Morris is helped off the field during the Minnesota game on Sept. 27, 2014, and was later diagnosed with a "probable mild concussion." The program was widely criticized for allowing him to play two additional plays after the hit.

At a meeting of the university's regents on Oct. 16, Michigan President Mark Schlissel opens statements saying he was disappointed with the way the Morris incident was handled.

Michigan alum Stephen Ross, the largest donor to athletics, tells the Wall Street Journal on Oct. 27 that he will not stand in the way of Schlissel as he formulates his decision about Brandon. In 2013, he had donated $200 million to the university, with $100 million earmarked for athletics.

Brandon enters Michigan Stadium through the tunnel before the Wolverines' first home game of the season on Sept. 8, 2012. Two years later, on Oct. 28, 2014, Michigan sports blog MGoBlog publishes damaging email exchanges purportedly between Brandon and fans.
