Job Description
American Songwriter is looking for a creative, thorough, forward-thinking, and detail-oriented full-time Associate Editor with proven writing and editing skills to join our Nashville editorial team. Must be able to edit, proofread, complete projects on time, and write effectively for multiple formats.
American Songwriter’s Associate Editor works directly with the Managing Editor to cover the music industry, edit written submissions, generate content for a print publication and website, and propose new ideas and opportunities to continue to grow the brand and audience.
We are looking for an individual who will be exhilarated and inspired by working in a fast-paced environment that will provide them with the creative outlet to let their talent shine.
THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION. MUST BE BASED IN GREATER NASHVILLE OR THE SURROUNDING AREA.
Responsibilities:
- Proofreading, editing, and polishing all written submissions to ensure content engages the audience and adheres to A.P and AS house style
- Coordinating editorial workflow to support the production of a quality magazine, website, and e-newsletters on deadline.
- Writing/creating content for multiple platforms (print and digital), including a mix of news articles, features, and evergreen content daily—producing well-researched content for publication online and in print.
- Assisting in the article acquisition process by regularly corresponding with authors and freelancers contributing articles.
- Ensuring all-around consistency (style, fonts, images, and tone). Creating a content distribution plan to drive traffic and engage customers
- Actively seeking out and coming up with new ideas and opportunities to continue to grow the brand and audience.
- Working closely with management to build online traffic.
- Collaborating with other members of the content production team to ensure timely delivery of materials and meet content deadlines.
- Consistently monitoring analytics across all platforms to continually improve audience engagement and identify areas of opportunity or improvement.
- Representing the brand at industry events.
- Creating social posts for brand's Facebook page.
Requirements:
- Excellent writing and editing skills- strong knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Have knowledge of Content Management Systems, CMS. (e.g. WordPress)
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with little daily supervision.
- Ability to work/write quickly and efficiently—including several news articles and features daily.
- Extensive knowledge of, and passion for, music and pop culture.
- A meticulous approach to their work and an eye for detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate through project management tools, including Asana and Slack
- Weekend and evening hours are required.
Non-remote position; The position will be based in American Songwriter’s Nashville office. A.S. maintains a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Staff is expected to be located within commuting distance.
The position reports to Managing Editor.
