Michigan State's Izzo puts his KISS on Midnight Madness

The Detroit News

He just wants to rock and 'roll all night and party every day, but only when it's Midnight Madness. Otherwise Tom Izzo is content to be the mild-mannered Michigan State men's basketball coach.

Izzo, decked out in full KISS regalia, greeted the Breslin Center crowd before the annual scrimmage Friday, which unofficially kicks off the men's and women's basketball seasons.

He went on to play the accordion with a KISS tribute band.

In past Midnight Madness events, Izzo has rappelled from the ceiling, ridden a horse, driven a race car and played Iron Man. Last year, he pretended to be a shot out of a cannon into a massive net stretched across the court.

In keeping with the musical theme, MSU women's coach Suzy Merchant came out dressed as pop star Beyonce.
