Boat runs aground, crashes into home along Lake of the Ozarks; 8 injured, driver charged

Eight people suffered significant injuries after a boat in the Lake of the Ozarks ran aground and crashed into a home over the weekend, state law enforcement reported.

The incident took place along the lake's main channel, troopers said.

Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash just before midnight Saturday after troopers said the boat left the water and crashed into a home, causing it to flip, ejecting all eight people on board.

Highway patrol Corporal Kyle Green told USA TODAY two people were inside the house but neither were injured.

Driver charged with BWI

An incident report shows four women and four men, ranging in age from 21 to 51, were transported to a hospital to be treated for moderate to serious injuries in the wreck.

As of Monday morning, five of the eight people injured had been released from the hospital, Green said.

Troopers charged the driver of the boat, a 47-year-old from Huntington, California, with boating while under the influence, troopers said.

All passengers onboard the vessel live out of state, troopers reported.

The conditions of the remaining hospitalized victims were not immediately known.

A photo posted by the highway patrol showed a crane lifting the boat from the yard, with officials adding it had been placed onto a trailer and towed away.
