DELHI TWP. – A 47-year-old Lansing woman was killed in a rollover crash this afternoon on Interstate 96 near the U.S. 127 interchange.

Michigan State Police said Tina Kling was headed east on I-96 when she lost control of her sport-utility vehicle and left the roadway. The vehicle came to rest on its roof in a ditch south of the freeway.

Kling was taken to Sparrow Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The crash happened about 2:40 p.m. at the start of a busy Friday afternoon commute and caused a lengthy backup on the eastbound lanes of I-96.

Police said alcohol also does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. It was unclear if Kling was wearing a seatbelt, and the investigation remains open, they said.

Investigators weren't sure what caused Kling to lose control of her vehicle and want to hear from anyone who saw the events leading up to the crash, State Police Lt. Mardella Horhn said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Drew Spencer at 322-1907.
