For the remainder of Tuesday, rain in New England should ease short-term dryness.  Meanwhile, rather disorganized showers will affect much of the remainder of the country, with some of the heaviest rain (locally 1 to 2 inches or more) expected across the Rockies, High Plains, and from northern California to the northern Intermountain West.  Similar totals may also occur in the western Gulf Coast region.  In contrast, mostly dry weather will persist in the eastern Corn Belt, while only isolated showers will affect the western Corn Belt and the eastern Plains.
