Kentucky crops: 72% corn and 78% soybeans rated good to excellent

Weather turned hot and dry in Kentucky as planting continues across the state. 

Corn is 97% planted, with 86% of the crop emerged, and 72% rated good to excellent.  Soybeans are 80% planted, with 65% emerged and 78% rated good to excellent. 

Winter wheat is 60% coloring with 87% of the crop rated good to excellent. 

Sixty-four percent of the tobacco crop has been set and 85% is rated good to excellent.  Pasture conditions have declined some with 62% rated good to excellent.  While weather has allowed hay cutting, regrowth is very slow.  Yields are widely varied and production has been low in some areas.

Topsoil is 47% adequate to surplus and subsoil is 64% adequate to surplus.
