NCGA expects on-time farm bill with debt ceiling raised

With Congress raising the debt ceiling, the National Corn Growers Association says that could clear the way for lawmakers to pass the 2023 Farm Bill on time.

President Tom Haag tells Brownfield leaders of the Senate and House Ag Committee know the clock is ticking. “They understand where they have to be and I think with this debt limit,  they have the reinforcements to go a little bit faster with it and hopefully we can get it taken care of.”

But, he says, there might not be as much funding available. “There might not be some things taken care of that other commodity groups would have liked to see with maybe reference pricing or also doing some base changes. The biggest thing is that we want to make sure that crop insurance is not harmed. Leave it where it’s at.

Haag says lawmakers have some parameters to work with and would like them to discuss priorities with commodity groups and constituents.
