Barclays Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard: 70k miles after only one purchase

21

There is another link available for the Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard that offers a welcome bonus of 70,000 miles after only one purchase within the first 90 days (the current public offer requires $2K in spend). This link comes from an inflight offer and requires a 6-digit “promo code.” However, you can use any 6-digit code (like 123456) and it will take you to the application page.

Quick Thoughts

This in-flight offer comes around periodically, but it has been a bit since we’ve last had a live link. It does require a “promo code that was issued by the flight attendant,” but in reality, you can enter any 6-digit code and it will take you to the application page. I believe that the codes simply function as a way to track sign-up incentives for the flight attendants.

Hawaiian Miles doesn’t offer many sweet spots and their awards tend to not be very well-priced. The one exception is when upgrading a paid ticket to business class. While upgrade space isn’t exactly plentiful, when it’s there, it can represent excellent value.

For those that can use the Hawaiian Miles, 70K for one purchase is a great deal.

Asking for a friend. He has a family of three and wants to go to Hawaii each year, different islands. What credit cards should I recommend to help him cover these flights? He already has a bunch of Ultimate Rewards points and in my mind this seems like a great option for getting to Hawaii (transferring to Singapore, Avios, Air Canada). Should he keep building up his UR balance? Add a different card?

Hey Dan,
I live in Honolulu and think about this often. Sadly, award flights between Hawaii and the continent typically offer poor value. Hawaiian for example often runs well less than 1 cent/point on these routes (I use their points for HA international or interisland where value is often much better). Alaska, United, etc are easy to book with points but also typically offer poor value. Avios can offer decent value but it’s very hard to find availability. I’ve given up checking Turkish but that’s the unicorn deal so I hear. While you’re not going to get outsized value, Southwest is probably best option for availability and getting reasonable value. Fortunately, the cash rates to Hawaii aren’t too bad. Accommodations are very expensive and that’s where I’d generally recommend focusing. Hyatt or Wyndham/Vacasa are the best options in my experience. Or if Chase Marriott comes back with 5 free night certificates that could be a good option.

Down the road there may be additional value with Alaska?

This sounds like a great deal! I’ll definitely have to look into getting this card and taking advantage of those miles. Thanks for sharing!

When is Barclays bumping up their biz card offers again? 70k for this and the AA card is nice but not worth entering 5/24 purgatory imo

Just tried to apply for this card using the “Alternative” sign up link (70,000 miles, 1 purchase), and the screen changes to: “Sorry, this offer is expired.” Anyone else have any luck? Did I use the wrong link?

Wondering if these miles could get me to Tahiti from Honolulu?

Lkohawaii

yes, but check the flights. Used to be only one flight a week from Honolulu.

Susan Mulligan

Thank you! Yes, I believe there is only one flight a week. I can make that work! Now…should I get this credit card???

If it came with access to Hawaiian’s lounges, I’d go for it. (Not)

How is the value in redeeming miles for Maui Jim sunglasses?

Victor

Depends on which shades you choose. 25k for $400 shades is good value to me

Great value! It’s 25k for any pair?

Ben

According to dp on DOC this redemption seems to have been put on hold since covid. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Victor

You have to call them for certificates so why dont you call and find out

I was able to redeem the miles for shades back in June 2022
