[unpaid/sample] Wow – how much better have mascaras got while we weren’t really looking? I’ve never had a bad experience with Fenty but have generally drifted away from the brand. So the Hella Thicc mascara was a nice wake up to a very good lash cover.

I think you can see that this formula adds major volume and length. I didn’t brush through to make it perfect although I could have done. This kind of mascara is more suited to the messy mascara trend (yes, there is one) – not quite clumpy but certainly ‘undone’. I like it in the same way I like black khol – that smudgy, just dredged out of a night club (as if…) kind of a look.

So now we come to the lipsticks! The Velvet Liquid Lipsticks are so intensely pigmented it’s unbelievable. All well and good for a lighter colour like C-Suite Heart below…

I’m wearing balm underneath so it has more sheen than it would normally have – mattes and velvets are not for me but if they’re for you, I think this is quite a nice neutral shade for all tones with a plushy feel. Maybe a bit on the orange side – it’s got that terracotta slant that a lot of the Charlotte Tilbury lip shades have. Boots have an offer on for £19.40 instead of £24.

This is The MVP (I’m not trendy enough to know what that means – probably just as well) and is SO red. It’s very blue toned so not really suiting my skin tone but if you love a searing, impactful, redder than red shade, it’s for you. However, taking it off is no picnic. It’s so pigment heavy that if you make a slight application error, the chances of clearing it up without drama is nil. See below.

I mean, I look like I’ve committed a murder. I like to think I know my way around a lipstick application and removal but this was a challenge. Chanel Bi-phase Eye Make Up Remover is always my hero in these circumstances – the oil in the bi-phase tends to cut through absolutely anything but it was as challenged as I was. Eventually I got there but this is a high maintenance lip product – worth it if you can put the effort in for an utterly stunning lip look, but a pass otherwise. It’s actually out of stock at Boots which is probably just as well.
