Planting almost done for a Wisconsin farmer

The end of planting season is near for a Wisconsin dairy farmer who also does custom planting.

Brody Stapel

Brody Stapel from Cedar Grove has been busy planting for other farms but is focusing on his own corn acres now. “We’re planting 775 and we’ve got 710 in or something like that. That’s corn. We’re waiting for manure to go out so we can finish up the corn on first-cutting alfalfa, so the hay is coming off, we’re putting manure on, and planting the rest to corn.”

Stapel says he also planted about 840 acres of soybeans for himself and his neighbors, and it’s time to harvest first-crop hay. “We do a lot of custom bailing and cutting as well so that ramps up for us too. A lot of it is for horse farmers and guys that don’t have their own hay-making equipment. We still have a small square bailer that keeps busy all summer.”

Stapel says it’s dry, and like everyone else, he’s hoping for some rain soon.
