Tennessee crops: corn 78% and cotton 71% rated good to excellent

Tennessee crops are off to a strong start this year.  The USDA reports weather was favorable for planting and transplanting crops and cutting hay.

Corn is rated 78% good to excellent with 97% planted and 87% emerged. emerged.  Soybeans are 68% planted with 50% of the crop emerged.  Cotton is rated 71% good to excellent and 85% of the crop planted with 2% squaring. 

Winter wheat is rated 73% good to excellent with 89% of the crop coloring, 22% mature, and 1% harvested.  Pastures are rated 70% good to excellent and the hay crop is rated 69% good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture is 89% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 90% adequate to surplus.
