Police investigating after a horse was found shot dead in Franklin County

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a horse was found shot dead in Franklin County.

The horse was found suffering from a gunshot wound at a property on McClays Mill Road in Southampton Township, which is near Shippensburg. Police said the horse was likely shot on April 27 or 28.

The Standardbred Retirement Foundation is listed as a victim on the police report. According to its website, the nonprofit organization provides humane care and homes to former racehorses.
