USDA: farmers made more in February

Farmers made more in February than January while paying steady money.

The USDA’s index of prices received was 1.7% higher as gains in corn, soybeans, cattle, and cauliflower against losses in milk, market eggs, celery and strawberries.

The dairy index for February was down 6.4% from January and 13% from February 2022, with an all milk price of $21.60 per hundredweight, a decline of $1.50 on the month and $3.10 on the year.

The index of prices paid was unchanged with decreases in diesel, nitrogen, supplements, and other machinery canceled out increases for feeder cattle, feed grains, concentrates, and other services.

Year-to-year, the index of prices received was up 5.7%, while the index of prices paid was 5.2% higher.
