Next Generation Fuels Act reintroduced in US House

The Next Generation Fuels Act has been reintroduced in the US House.

The bipartisan legislation would phase higher blends of ethanol into gasoline, reducing prices at the pump for consumers and supporting US farmers by expanding the market for biofuels.

The bill was introduced this session by Nikki Budzinski and Darin LaHood of Illinois, Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa and Angie Craig of Minnesota.

Budzinski says expanding the role biofuels play in the nation’s fuel supply is a triple win to reduce gas prices, support family farms and cut harmful emissions.

LaHood says the bill builds off the Renewable Fuels Standard to provide more efficient energy solutions while supporting agriculture producers.

Craig says it is essential to embrace an all-of-the-above energy approach when working to slow the effects of climate change, and the Next Generation Fuels Act helps get there.

Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst of Iowa, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois recently introduced a companion bill in the senate.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor, National Corn Growers Association President Tom Haag and Renewable Fuels Association CEO Geoff Cooper have expressed support for the bill and urge lawmakers to quickly send the bill to the President’s desk.

The bill is also supported by the American Coalition for Ethanol, National Farmers Union, American Farm Bureau Federation, John Deere and United Auto Workers.
