Lamar Jackson defends his durability, decision to sit out last year's playoff game

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was back on social media Tuesday night, this time defending his absence from last season's playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals. 

Jackson missed the Ravens' last six games – including the 24-17 wild-card loss to Cincinnati – because of a sprained knee.

"Let’s get real," Jackson tweeted. "I rather have a 100% PCL than go out there and play horrible forcing myself to put my guys in a bad situation now that’s selfish to me."

The 2019 NFL MVP also denied speculation that the reason he didn't play in that game was because he and the Ravens hadn't reached an agreement on a long-term contract.

"I don't remember me sitting out on my guys week 1 vs jets To week 12 vs Broncos," he wrote.

A day earlier, Jackson turned up the pressure on the Ravens by revealing he asked the team for a trade earlier this month after he was designated with the franchise tag.

If he were to agree to play under those terms, the Ravens would pay Jackson more than $32 million next season, which is considerably below what he could likely get on the open market. 

By placing the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, the Ravens are allowing him to speak to other teams. However, if he signs an offer sheet, the Ravens would have the ability to match the terms or receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

Jackson doesn't have an agent and instead has turned to social media as his contract dispute has become increasingly more public.
