Excessive soil moisture in parts of Tennessee
Nearly all of Tennessee has plenty of soil moisture.
The USDA says 99% of topsoil and 98% of subsoil have adequate to surplus moisture levels after ample rainfall during March.
That rain did cause some flood damage to winter wheat and part of that crop is expected to be lost after a deep freeze during December, but 62% of the crop is in good to excellent shape, 5% above a month ago.
40% of Tennessee livestock producers are short to very sort of hay and roughage, but the spring warm-up has started growth in some pastures.
78% of pastures and rangelands are called fair to good and 63% of cattle are in good to excellent condition.
There are reports of hay and pasture field fertilization in addition to preparations for corn and soybean planting.
